Newspapers were the social media of your American ancestors and their news sometimes appeared outside the hometown, county, or state. Newspaper editors read each other’s papers and reprinted each other’s stories. The AP and the newspaper unions also reprinted and distributed news. A “News from Ireland” column was featured for decades in a weekly Catholic Rochester, New York newspaper.  Learn best practices to find the items you may have missed due to misspellings, imperfect OCR (optical character recognition) and bad microfilms. See the interfaces of fee and free online resources.

Television researcher Janeen Bjork applied the detective, analytic and presentation skills she garnered in a 30-year career to her family tree and to the trees of friends, students and clients. She is an author, and a Genealogy speaker and teacher whose specialties include newspapers, creating sharable family history, and DNA for Genealogy.
